Monday Movie Meme: Snoozer

When it comes to watching a movie, I can say that I never snoozed on any movie because when I don't like the movie, I would tell my hubby, the movie is not worth my time, I would rather sleep.

There are just few of the movies that "I walked out, rather than snooze" and that includes: Napoleon Dynamite and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I know you will disagree with me but I just can't get into these movies. (I know for sure that The Bumbles will disagree with me... )

I hope every one has a great Monday....

Monday Movie Meme: Boredom Blues

When I fell bored, I want to watch movies that will make me laugh...

Tropic Thunder never fails to entertain me. I just find this very funny that I will end up laughing endlessly. Definitely a boredome solution for me.

I love this movie because I can relate to most scenes when it comes to having a big family. Greek traditions has similarity to Filipino traditions. I guess watching this movie eases my homesickness. It makes me laugh how family reacts when marrying not your kind. Cute and funny.

Please visit The Bumbles Blog and see what movies can ease your boredom.

Monday Movie Meme: Babies

Let's talk about best baby movies. I don't find many movies of this type that I like. What I can always think of when it comes to babies and movies is the Father of the Bride II. I am a big fan of Father of the Bride because I just love Steve Martin.

Father of the Bride II
In this sequel to "Father of the Bride", George Banks must accept the reality of what his daughter's ascension from daughter to wife, and now, to mother means when placed into perspective against his own stage of life. As the comfortable family unit starts to unravel in his mind, a rapid progression into mid-life crisis is in his future. His journey to regain his youth acts as a catalyst for a kind of "rebirth" of his attitude on life when he and his wife, Nina, find how their lives are about to change as well.

Another movie is the Baby's Day Out. This movie seems to be really silly and kinda stupid but it is also entertaining.

Baby's Day Out
Baby Bink couldn't ask for more; he has adoring (if somewhat sickly-sweet) parents, he lives in a huge mansion, and he's just about to appear in the social pages of the paper. Unfortunately, not everyone in the world is as nice as Baby Bink's parents; especially the three enterprising kidnappers who pretend to be photographers from the newspaper. Successfully kidnapping Baby Bink, they have a harder time keeping hold of the rascal, who not only keeps one step ahead of them, but seems to be more than a little bit smarter than the three bumbling criminals.

Monday Movie Meme: Brothers

I am the one who encouraged my hubby (Musings of Life) to join this meme and yet I was the one that was not able to make an entry last week. That is why, this week I absolutely need to make one. I am sure that hubby and I will have the same movies because we like the same type of movies.

1. Rain Man - who can forget Dustin Hoffman in this movie? He just performed the role to the T! I actually followed the real Rain man (Kim Peek) because I was fascinated with his life. Rain man is about the love of the brother you didn't know.

2. Legends of the Fall - Brad Pitt is awesome in this movie. Of course, I love the role of Anthony Hopkins too. This is the story about unbreakable bond of being brothers until Sam dies in WWI.

3. Twins - I love Danny Devito's humor. So I am a fan of his. This movie is about being a twin and separated by birth. Twins yet the opposite of each other because of genetic scientist experiment.

4. Stardust - although the brothers are not the focus of this movie, I still want to include it because of its funny moments. Because the king has more than one son, he has to choose who will inherit the throne. Each brothers want the throne so they want to deceive one another (to the point of killing) for the sake of the crown.

Monday Movie Meme: Narrators

Like the Bumbles, I love the voice of Morgan Freeman. His voice is just so wonderful and can capture an audience. I am not a very big fan of history shows but when it is narrated by Morgan Freeman I am compel to watch it as I just love him. I guess I have to share my love of Morgan Freeman with the Bumbles.

Anyway, I know I have seen many movies which was narrated but I can't seem to think of it. Coincidentally, we watched a narrated movie last night. The title of the movie is "The Lovely Bones". When we started watching it, I can't believe that Marky Mark was the main actor of the movie... what an added bonus because I am a fan of him.

The Lovely Bones centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

Anyway, I think Anthony Hopkins will also make a good narrator.

Monday Movie Meme: Sidekicks

Am I late for this entry? Perhaps.... but I think not quite....lol

Anyway, been a really busy day for me that I almost forget about this meme. But when I visited The Bumbles Blog, how can I not joined when I love the theme for this week. This week is all about the side kicks and I have a few favorites....

Danny Glover of The Lethal Weapon. Oh gosh! I love this movie. I have seen this movie so many times and yet I am still not tire of it. I still can watch it a few more times.

Sean Connery as father of Harrison Ford in one of the Indiana Jones movie. I just love their scenes together. It is very hilarious and I love it when Sean kept on addressing Harrison Ford as "Junior"

Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) in Shrek. I am a big fan of Shrek movie and I can't help but laugh at the Donkey's role.

Monday Movie Meme: Highs and Lows

My list for this week's movie highs and lows is just but a few of my favorite stars. I can go on and on and I am sure you won't appreciate it because it is tiring to read long entries.

For more choices please visit The Bumbles Blog.

Cuba Gooding, Jr.
I always appreciate Cuba Gooding's acting. But lately he tries so much to be in a role that doesn't fit him anymore. It seems like he tries very much to be a bad guy in the movie and it doesn't fit him.

Good - Men of Honor
Ugly - Way of War

Nicholas Cage
He is one of the firsts actor that I admired. When I was in the Philippines, I have less access to English movies. The few that I have seen are mostly movies of him. Anyway, when I heard about his troubles in IRS I can't believe it because of his lifestyle. I am certain he earns a lot... it is just a shame that he is in trouble with IRS.

Good - National Treasure
Ugly - Ghost Rider

Will Smith
I fall in love with Will Smith's movies when I have seen him in Bad Boys. Then I started to watch more movies of him. It is amazing how many movies that is under development that he is working on. According to imdb, he has 25 movies under development... wheeww

Good - Bad Boys, Independence Day, Seven Pounds
Ugly - I am Legend

Mark Wahlberg
I just love Marky Mark!

Good - Shooter
Ugly - The Happening

Monday Movie Meme: Chatter

Every Monday the The Bumbles Blog, host of Monday Movie Meme presents different theme for participants to post on their blogs. This week is all about Chatter. Please visit and join us if you are movie lovers like us.

  1. IMDB. This is our main source of information when it comes to ratings, casts and every thing. We always visit this site if we need information about a certain movie.
  2. Redbox. As we always rent our movies at redbox (it's cheap just $1/night), I always check its website before we rent the movie. I like their website because it will tell you the rating and the summary of the movie. You can also reserve online and get the movie in the machine. What is cool also is you can look up certain titles and find which outlet has it. I find it very useful because we can check out first if there is copy available in certain location and it will all also tell me which location it is available. This is very convenient because there is no need to drive over only to find out that there is no copy in the machine.
  3. Monthly Movie Date. Since Andrea can now stay with her Nana and Papa and they also offered to keep her, we planned on having at least a monthly movie date.

Monday Movie Meme: Game On....

I have enjoyed watching football over the holidays. We watched so many bowl games and NFL games too...

For this week's theme, It is very coincidental as we watched (although we have seen it many times) Any Given Sunday and The Replacements. It seems like we couldn't get enough of the games so we watched movies that revolved around football.

Any Given Sunday
An aging football coach finds himself struggling with his personal and professional life while trying to hold his team together. A star quarterback has been knocked out of the game and a naive football player replaces him only to become exposed to the world of sports and become a danger to himself and to his players. Meanwhile, the coach finds himself constantly at battle with the team owner's money and power hungry daughter intent on moving the team out.
I love the ending of this movie. The speech that the coach made and of course the surprise at the end!

The Replacements
When the NFL football team, the Washington Sentinels, goes on strike, the team's owner, Edward O'Neill, calls former NFL coach Jimmy McGinty out of retirement to coach a rag-tag team of replacement players to finish the season's last four games in which McGinty turns to former Ohio State player Shane Falco to be the team's captain for the duration of the season and Falco is forced to shape up the misfit players whom include convenience store guard Clifford Franklin, gangster rapper brothers Andre and Jamal Jackson, former sumo wrestler Jumbo Fumkio, a Welsh "football" player called "The Leg", a deaf player, a convict on a work-release program, a tough SWAT leader, and many more while, at the same time, Falco strikes up a possible romance with the team's cheerleading captain Annabelle Farrell.
--------------

Of course one of my favorite movies... Remember the Titans and I am looking forward to watch The Blind Side.

Monday Movie Meme: To Die For...

There are death scenes in movies that are really scary, some are funny, and some are really heartbreaking.....

Here's my list:

Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Harrison Ford was scheduled to have a massive duel with his whip and the giant sword master guy. Apparently Ford and most of the cast got very sick from the food in Cairo, Egypt and being so under the weather Ford was unable to do the entire whip battle scene, so instead after the sword master puts on his show of talents, Indy just shoots him. I think this is a funny death scene.

Thelma and Louise
The tragic drive toward their doom and making the choice to end things on their terms. The embrace of a hands solidifies the power and commitment of their feminist choice making it an unforgettable moment in cinema.

Jurassic Park
The scene where the T-Rex cocks his head to the side as though to decide whether or not a blood sucking lawyer will in fact be a worthy meal, and then violently tears his massive head down on Gennaro lifting his body off the toilet and swinging his prey to death. This scene is evokes a sense of karma in the universe, a bit of comedy, and a lot of terror.

... and of course.... the funniest...
Tropic Thunder......... the scene where the director was blown into pieces because he stepped on a mine.....

This is a film about five men who are hauled into the New York police station because a crime was committed and they are the usual suspects. They all agree to do a job together for a little revenge. After the big job, 27 people are dead, and there are two survivors. But the question is...who's the one controlling everything?
Child psychologist Malcom Crowe is one night visited by an ex-patient named Vincent, angry, enraged. He wounds Crowe, then kills himself. A few months later, Crowe is visited by a 9-year old boy named Cole. He sees dead people who do not know they are dead. Because of this, he is called a freak in school. Father of the Bride
In this remake of the Spencer Tracy classic, George and Nina Banks are the parents of young soon-to-be-wed Annie. George is a nervous father unready to face the fact that his little girl is now a woman. The preparations for the extravagant wedding provide additional comic moments.

Class Action
For the plaintiff...Jedediah Tucker Ward. For the defense...Margaret Eleanor Ward. Nothing Personal. It's just Father Vs. Daughter in the fight of their lives.

Mrs. Doubtfire
How far would an ordinary father go to spend more time with his children? Daniel Hillard is no ordinary father, so when he learns his ex-wife needs a housekeeper, he applies for the job. With the perfect wig, a little makeup and a dress for all occasions, he becomes Mrs. Doubtfire, a devoted British nanny who is hired on the spot. Her father gets to speak briefly to one of the kidnappers and he promises to kill the kidnappers if they do not let his daughter go free. The kidnapper wishes him "good luck," so Bryan Mills travels to Paris to search for his daughter and her friend.

Monday Movie Meme: The Good Old Days

This week's theme of Monday Movie Meme is somewhat hard on me because I can't really relate on this.

You see, I grew up in a small town in the Philippines where a lot doesn't even have electricity in the common households. I admit, we had our electricity when I was 15 years old. We didn't own a television set until few years later.

When it comes to favorite movies during my childhood years, I can't name anything because I never had access to movies during my childhood years.

My filipino readers can understand that most of us in the Philippines are addicted to different television series. As far as I can remember, I watched teleseries at my neighbor's house (who was well off and owns the only television in our place when I was like 10 years old or younger). I know I got addicted to "Agila" and "Mara Clara". These are famous teleseries in the Philippines. As years passed by, there were so many teleseries in different TV channels that I lost count of it.

Anyway, besides the teleseries, most of the people in our place are into radio programs (drama programs). I admit, we spend most of our nights listening to radio dramas before bedtime. We listened to "Kulafu" and most of "Teban and Goliath's radio dramas".

This is my share of the "good old days". If you want to know some of the good old days favorites of this meme, please visit The Bumbles Blog.

Monday Movie Meme: Location (Alabama)

This week's movie meme is about regional representation. Of course, I have to list my favorite movies which are set in Alabama since that where I am from. On my last entry, I included a movie that is set in Philippines where I am originally from.

Please check The Bumbles Blog for this weeks entries.

Sweet Home Alabama
Melanie Carmichael (Reese Witherspoon), an up and rising fashion designer in New York, has gotten almost everything she wished for since she was little. She has a great career and the JFK-like husband of New York City. But when he proposes to her, she doesn't forget about her family back down South - and, more importantly, her husband back there, who refuses to divorce her ever since she sent divorce paper for almost 5 years. To settle matters straight, she decides to go to the south quick and make him sign the papers. But when things don't turn out the way she planned them out, she realizes that what she had before in the south was far more perfect than the life she had in new york city.

Fried Green Tomatoes
Evelyn Couch is having trouble in her marriage, and no one seems to take her seriously. While in a nursing home visiting relatives, she meets Ninny Threadgoode, an outgoing old woman, who tells her the story of Idgie Threadgoode, a young woman in 1920's Alabama. Through Idgie's inspiring life, Evelyn learns to be more assertive and builds a lasting friendship of her own with Ninny

My Cousin Vinny
While heading for college, Bill and Stan are arrested in Alabama when circumstances point to them as having murdered a convenience store clerk. Unable to afford an attorney, they turn to Bill's cousin Vinny, a brash New Yorker who took six tries to pass his bar exam. Worse, until now he's only taken personal injury cases, none of which have gone to trial. Dragging along his even more abrasive fiancee Mona Lisa Vito, Vinny will have to straighten up fast, and keep out of jail himself, if he's going to win the case.

Big Fish
Edward Bloom (Albert Finney)has been a storyteller his whole life, and he has told and retold these colorful stories to his son, Will (Billy Crudup) with embellishments. The son doesn't know who his father really is, and he hasn't spoken to his father for years. His mother (Jessica Lange) calls him in Paris that his father is dying. Will, with his new wife, flies home to his father's deathbed to make things right. Edward does the one thing he loves, and tells his tall-tales about a big cat-fish, a giant, a witch, conjoined-twins, the circus, how he met his wife, and the birth of Will. Will doesn't know when his father was telling the truth or crossing into fantasy, and in the end, Will becomes the storyteller. (This movie is shot mostly in Alabama)

An Officer and a Gentleman
Zack Mayo is a loner who has never had to rely on anyone but himself. As a child, he was sent to live with his father, a career Navy man based in the Philippines, after his mother commits suicide. There he soon realized that he had to be tough and rely on no one. After graduating from college, he shocks his father by telling that he has enlisted in the Navy and will enter training as a naval aviator. There he brings the same loner attitude he has had all of his life. He does however meet Paula, an attractive young woman who often attends base functions in the hope of nabbing a young officer and Sid Worley, a classmate with whom he forms a close bond. The training is difficult but not as tough as having to deal with their training officer, Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley who teaches Zack a lesson in the importance of relying on your friends and colleagues.

NOTE: I am from Philippines that is why I have to include this on my list.

Monday Movie Meme: Work

For this week, participants of Monday Movie Meme will post movies that is all about work. This week's topic is in connection with Labor Day celebration. Please check out The Bumbles Blog for more of this week's entries.... Hope ya'll have a wonderful Labor Day celebration....

Here's my entry:

Primal Fear
Courtroom thriller about a slick, hotshot lawyer (Richard Gere) who takes the seemingly unwinnable case of a young altar boy (Edward Norton) accused of murdering an eminent catholic priest.

Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich is an unemployed single mother, desperate to find a job, but is having no luck. This losing streak even extends to a failed lawsuit against a doctor in a car accident she was in. With no alternative, she successfully browbeats her lawyer to give her a job in compensation for the loss. While no one takes her seriously, with her trashy clothes and earthy manners, that soon changes when she begins to investigate a suspicious real estate case involving the Pacific Gas & Electric Company.

The Interpreter
Escalating events begin when U.N. interpreter Silvia Broome alleges that she has overheard a death threat against an African head of state, spoken in a rare dialect few people other than Silvia can understand. With the words "The Teacher will never leave this room alive," in an instant, Silvia's life is turned upside down as she becomes a hunted target of the killers. Placed under the protection of federal agent Tobin Keller, Silvia's world only grows more nightmarish.

Top Gun
Maverick is a hot pilot. When he encounters a pair of MiGs over the Persian Gulf, his wingman is clearly outflown and freaks. On almost no fuel, Maverick is able to talk him back down to the Carrier. When his wingman turns in his wings, Maverick is moved up in the standings and sent to the Top Gun Naval Flying School. There he fights the attitudes of the other pilots and an old story of his father's death in combat that killed others due to his father's error. Maverick struggles to be the best pilot, stepping on the toes of his other students and in a different way to Charlie, a civilian instructor to whom he is strongly attracted.

The X Files
This television series follows the adventures and lives of FBI agents investigating those cases that involve the paranormal or previously unsolved (especially by conventional means). FBI Special Agents Mulder, Scully, Doggett and Reyes work to uncover forces within the United States of America government that would violate people's rights, alien creatures and monsters alike that attack, and other mysteries.
