RAVE Movie Theater

This movie theater has a special place in my heart. This was where hubby and I first watched a movie together.

Yesterday, we came back to this place. It was the first time that we brought our daughter to this movie theater. We watched LION KING.

We really enjoyed the movie. Andrea enjoyed and watched the whole movie. The few times that we brought her to watch a movie, she always fell asleep after half of the movie. This time around, she watched all of it.

Popcorn and drinks in the movie theater are priced high but Andrea wanted to eat popcorn, because she always think that if you watch a movie, you should eat popcorn. So, I bought a small bag of popcorn and a small drink.

Andrea had enjoyed the movie because she keeps on talking about it. She relays whatever the scenes in the movie. We will be back to watch another movie again sometime.

Friendly Game of Cards

I have group of friends that comes to our place to play card games. We play a game called "tong-its". As my hubby said it looks like it is a mix of a game tonk and rummy. It is a Filipino card game and when we play it we usually play it for hours and hours without stopping.

Technically, we also stop the game for a break to eat. Well, knowing us Filipinos, we always love to eat so whenever we have a card game expect that the Filipino foods are overflowing.

We play card for little money. It is our form of entertainment. Our game nights are not just about game it is about getting together, sharing laugh, eating Filipino foods and bonding for us and our kids.

I know that it is also a form of gambling but it doesn't bother us because win or lose we always have a lot of fun. The camaraderie is always good for everyone. Some of my friends have tried online gambling and even tried going to casinos but it is not as much fun as we always have, that is why we just stick to our friendly game of cards.

Speaking of casinos, have you ever seen the movie Casino? The movie is based on the Nicholas Pileggi book. This movie is directed by Martin Scorsese, an action packed crime drama movie that was based on the true-life adventures of Frank Rosenthal in Las Vegas. A very good movie that you should watch.

Letters to Juliet

Last night, hubby and I watched Letters to Juliet - a chick flick movie. We usually don't watch chick flick movies but every once in a while we indulge into movies like this. Well, I think it is because I am a typical girl who likes to watch chick flicks and hubby knows that!

Anyway, Letters to Juliet is a movie about getting a second chance at love. Yeah... very chick flick indeed!

An American girl on vacation in Italy finds an unanswered "letter to Juliet" -- one of thousands of missives left at the fictional lover's Verona courtyard, which are typically answered by a the "secretaries of Juliet" -- and she goes on a quest to find the lovers referenced in the letter.

The Back-up Plan (Movie Review)

The Back-up plan was released on red box yesterday and I couldn't wait to rent it because I like J.Lo! We watched the movie last night and we were entertained.

The Back-up Plan is a romantic comedy centered on a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day.

Zoe's a woman who has a hard time letting anyone into her life. She has a habit of pushing people away when they get close. She also wants to have a baby but because she has no man in her life decides to be artificially inseminated. Shortly after having the procedure she meets a guy named Stan whom she connects with. But she's still afraid to let him in and when she tells him about her pregnancy thinking he would bail but he sticks with her.

For J.Lo's fans this is a movie you will laugh at although some scenes are ridiculous.

Our Family Wedding (Movie Review)

I love Forest Whitaker that is why when I saw the trailer of the movie Our Family Wedding, I know we have to rent it.

Below is the summary of the movie:

"Our marriage, their wedding." It's lesson number one for any newly engaged couple, and Lucia and Marcus are no exception. In Our Family Wedding, they learn the hard way that the path to saying "I do" can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers - two highly competitive over-the-top egos - can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day. With insults flying and tempers running high, it's anyone's guess if the alpha dads will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia's mother is busy planning the wedding of "her" dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela, the groom's father's best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo. With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying - that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.

Okay, this movie turns out to be a disappointment. No wonder imdb rated them 3.0 out of 10. It was not what I expected and I don't recommend it for anybody to watch it. So, don't waste your time and money with this movie.

Percy Jackson & Olympians: The Lightning Thief

We have been waiting for this movie to be out on Redbox. We are movie buffs as you all noticed, we watched movies almost every night. When this movie came out last Tuesday, we know we got to rent it.

Trouble-prone Percy Jackson is having problems in high school - but that's the least of his challenges. Its the 21st century, but the Gods of Mount Olympus seems to have walked out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology texts and into his life. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea, which means Percy is a demigod - half human, half god. As the same time, Zeus, the king of all gods, has accused Percy of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt...the original weapon of mass destruction.

Percy travels to a special enclave called Camp Half Blood where he trains to harness his newly discovered powers. There, he meets two fellow demigods - the warrior Annabeth, daughter of goddess Athena; and his childhood friend and protector Grover, who is a Satyr.

Percy Jackson: Half human. Half God. All Hero!

*************
This movie is very awesome! I can watch it over and over again. Here's another movie that we want to buy so that we will own a copy of it.

From Paris With Love

Technology is a wonderful thing. We live in an age of instant everything especially when it comes to relaxing and watching a good movie. No longer do we need to drive to the video store or stand in line to see a movie. We can conveniently watch the latest films on demand on direct tv phoenix in the comfort of our home.

I love all types of movies and all genres. Recently the best movie I watched was a great action/comedy film titled, From Paris with Love with John Travolta. He played an over the top government agent trying to stop an assassination attempt against the Secretary of State who was in Paris for a conference. The plot moved along well and Travolta injected a lot of comedy in the action. There was a kind of abbreviated romance between Travolta's partner- Jonathan Ryes Meyers- and a beautiful French woman who later would be found out to be a terrorist. However, the overall plot was not the main focus of the film. It was the almost nonstop action and comedy that held my attention.

This movie epitomizes the main reason people go to the movies and that is to be entertained. It was a refreshing change from the comic book superhero films and vampire movies of recent. "From Paris with Love" moved fast with a running time of just over ninety minutes the pace was frantic with only short occasional bits of calm I would definitely watch it again and plan to buy the DVD when it is released.

Extraordinary Measures (Movie)

The film is based on the true story of John Crowley, a man who fought the system to pursue a cure for his child’s life threatening disease. Two of his kids were suffering from Pompe Disease... a disease with no cure.

I never know what a Pompe disease is until I have seen the movie. What is Pompe Disease? Pompe disease is an inherited disorder caused by the buildup of a complex sugar called glycogen in the body's cells. The accumulation of glycogen in certain organs and tissues, especially muscles, impairs their ability to function normally.

The movie is all about extra ordinary measures a parent has to do for their kids. Watching this movie makes me feel more blessed having a healthy child. I can't help but feel the pain the parents are experiencing having to watch their children deteriorate. As a mother myself, I know how painful it is to see your kids suffer. I really admire the Crowleys for all their efforts and sacrifices.

Slumdog Millionaire - A Must See!

I love movies. That said, up until recently I couldn’t stand movies that took place in other countries. I have nothing against other countries; it’s just that I always had such difficulty understanding what they were saying. This made these movies difficult to follow, and other than the interesting scenery, I had no reason to watch them. Well, one movie changed my entire attitude with all of this. That movie was Slumdog Millionaire.

I had heard it was terrific, but the title kind of turned me off. I figured it would be about some kid who grew up in the ghetto and ended up rich. It almost was, but this movie goes so much deeper. While it’s not a movie I would watch several times, I still loved it. There was something special about it. I guess the word would be ‘distinctive.’ A lot of that had to do with what I was able to learn about India.

I found Slumdog Millionaire on direct tv last Thursday, which was a blessing. If I hadn’t found it, I would have ended up watching another baseball game. I’m very happy with the way everything worked out that night. While Slumdog Millionaire is suspenseful, it’s also a love story. What makes it a special love story is that it’s about a boy who fell in love with a girl at a very young age and never let go or gave up. He was willing to make any sacrifice and take any chance to end up with her. You sense she feels the same way, but at some points you’re not so sure. This simple aspect adds a little mystery to the movie. The end of the movie is definitely different and enjoyable. You will see why.

Overall, I would highly recommend Slumdog Millionaire. It’s adventurous, suspenseful, educational, and most of all, fun.

Movie Date

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of 20th Century Fox. All opinions are 100% mine.

-------------

Hubby and I watch movie almost every night. It is our form of bonding. We always enjoyed watching movies while snuggling in the couch. Oftentimes, we paused our movie and get something to munch on. Our movie nights are always special. We have been doing this since we were together. We also like watching movies in the movie house, but our movie dates in the movie house are limited as we have a child to think about. Thankfully, my mother-in-law always offers to take care of my daughter if we want to watch a movie.

It has been a month since we last saw a movie in a movie house. We are due for another movie date and we plan to watch the Date Night Movie which will be released on Friday (April 9, 2010). We planned on watching it this weekend. I like both Steve Carell and Tina Fey. They are both the leading stars of this movie.

The “Date Night” is a story about a bored suburban couple played by Steve Carell and Tina Fey who goes on their weekly dinner date and find themselves thrown into a night of intrigue and adventure. They will be engaged in a car chase, a shootout and a showdown with an underworld boss at a strip club. The movie has a lot of action. You can watch the movie trailer below.

Based on the trailer this is a must see movie. So, why don't you get a sitter for your little ones and have a good movie date this opening weekend?

Sherlock Holmes (Movie)

I have been looking forward to the release of this movie on DVD. I like Robert Downey Jr. and him playing the very famous Sherlock Holmes is a very interesting one.

New DVDs are released on Tuesdays so I was so excited to check red box if it is already available. To my dismay, the released was postponed on April 27. Good thing that Dave went to rent movies in Movie Gallery instead of Red Box so we got a copy of Sherlock Holmes. We couldn't wait to watch the movie last night. We were so eager to watch it because the movie trailer was so good.

We were not disappointed with the movie because Robert Downey played the role to the T! Jude Law was also awesome in his role. The movie was so interesting and it was a great entertainment. We will not mind watching it again.

Here's the plot summary of the movie from IMDB
After finally catching serial killer and occult "sorcerer" Lord Blackwood, legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson can close yet another successful case. But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again. Contending with his partner's new fiancée and the dimwitted head of Scotland Yard, the dauntless detective must unravel the clues that will lead him into a twisted web of murder, deceit, and black magic - and the deadly embrace of temptress Irene Adler.
If you haven't seen this movie, I recommend to grab a copy now and enjoy!

Everybody's Fine (Movie)

I have been waiting for this movie to come out in DVD. I like Robert di Nero so I was so excited when the movie was out on DVD last Tuesday. Thankfully, there were enough copies in red box that we were able to rent it that night.

I expected more of the movie but it turned out to be just a light movie. It was basically a family story which I could not compare to my Filipino family because Filipino family relationship is very different to an American Family relationship. Just the same, I like it when they showed that they are always there for each other when they needed it.

Synopsis of the movie:
Widower Frank Goode has had to make plenty of adjustments since losing his wife about a year ago, but maybe the hardest one has been maintaining his relationships with his four adult children. It would seem that Frank's wife was the glue who held the family together, and when all of the kids bug out on a planned visit home, he decides to set out on a trip around the country, dropping in on each of their lives in order to help put things right. But their relationships aren't as simple as they once seemed, and Frank's paternal intuition is telling him that his sons and daughters are hiding something from him - and if the Goodes want to become the family they once were, the truth will have to come out before Frank returns home.
If you want a family story that can warm your heart, go get or rent a copy of this movie.

World's Greatest Dad (Movie Review)

When I saw this movie in redbox and it was Robin Williams, I don't want to pass the chance to watch this. I always adored Robin Williams. He is one of the most versatile actors. I love most of his movies. So we decided to rent and watch it.

Well, this movie is different. It was not as good as I expected it to be. It has its moments but this is the type of movie I won't watch again. I do like the choices he made at the end. It makes the movie worth watching.

Here's the Synopsis from imdb.com
Lance Clayton is a man who has learned to settle. He dreamed of being a rich and famous writer, but has only managed to make it as a high school poetry teacher. His only son Kyle is an insufferable jackass who won't give his father the time of day. He is dating Claire, the school's adorable art teacher, but she doesn't want to get serious -- or even acknowledge publicly that they are dating. Then, in the wake of a freak accident, Lance suffers the worst tragedy and greatest opportunity of his life. He is suddenly faced with the possibility of all the fame, fortune and popularity he ever dreamed of, if he can only live with the knowledge of how he got there.

My Sister's Keeper

Few nights ago, we watched The Sister's Keeper. A movie that made me cry like 75% of the time when I was watching it.

The Sister's Keeper is a movie about Anna - an 11 year old girl, conceived through Invitro-fertilization. She was purposely conceived to be a donor to her leukemia-stricken sister Kate.

Anna Fitzgerald seeks the successful lawyer Campbell Alexander trying to hire him to earn medical emancipation from her mother Sara that wants Anna to donate her kidney to her sister. She tells the lawyer the story of her family after the discovery that her older sister Kate has had leukemia; how she was conceived by in vitro fertilization to become a donor; and the medical procedures she has been submitted since she was five years old to donate to her sister.

This movie made me cry some more because almost a year ago, we lost Joy (my niece) and she suffered from many complications... she went through dialysis too. I just can picture out the pain the family suffer. The things a mother can and will do just to prolong the life of her sick child. Everything in the movie is very realistic... from pain ... to suffering ... from holding on to family... to finally giving up and letting go...

It is sad but it shows some facts of life....

Angels and Demons

I am glad that Angels and Demons are out on DVD. I have been waiting for this. When I saw the preview of this movie, I know right away that I will love it just like with the Da Vinci Code.

I was not disappointed with the movie because it is full of action and full of history too. Tom Hanks did it again in a very superb and action pack movie thriller. I love its beautiful ending... the respect and honor Dr. Langdon gets. This movie should be on the top of your "must see" movie.

Despite his notorious relationship with the Church, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is once again called upon to decipher the clues to a catastrophic conspiracy. The Pope has died, and before conclave can begin to determine his successor, the four preferitti (primary hopefuls for the papacy) are kidnapped. An ominous threat of their hourly demise, along with the complete annihilation of Vatican City, is issued as an elaborate revenge scheme for a persecuted group known as the Illuminati. With their meager time limit steadily counting down, Langdon, accompanied by beautiful physicist Vittoria Vetra, must travel throughout Rome to unravel the carefully hidden signs that will lead them to a terrifying adversary, a harrowing discovery, and the shocking truth.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors. I enjoyed watching his movies namely... Training Day, The Manchurian Candidate, The Bone Collector, John Q, and much much more. When I saw the preview of Pelham 1 2 3, I know I have to watch it because Denzel was in there and so is John Travolta. I know it has to be a good movie.

When I watched this movie, I didn't get disappointed because it was a very very good movie. Both John Travolta and Denzel Washington performed perfectly for their roles. So, if you haven't seen this movie... you better grab a copy from your nearest dvd rental place and enjoy it...

Summary:
In early afternoon, four armed men hijack a subway train in Manhattan. They stop on a slight incline, decoupling the first car to let the rest of the train coast back. Their leader is Ryder; he connects by phone with Walter Garber, the dispatcher watching that line. Garber is a supervisor temporarily demoted while being investigated for bribery. Ryder demands $10 million within an hour, or he'll start shooting hostages. He'll deal only with Garber. The mayor okays the payoff, the news of the hostage situation sends the stock market tumbling, and it's unclear what Ryder really wants or if Garber is part of the deal. Will hostages, kidnappers, and negotiators live through this?

The Maiden Heist

THE MAIDEN HEIST gives us the most endearing characters ever to commit grand larceny: three museum security guards who live lives of quiet captivation, each enraptured by a particular work of art.

Roger (Christopher Walken), Charles (Morgan Freeman) and George (William H. Macy) are each so lost in fascination with the particular objet d’art of his affection that although they have been coworkers for decades, they only just meet for the first time when crisis strikes: there’s a new curator in town, and his plan is to change the museum’s collection entirely, threatening to rob each man of his greatest secret passion in life.

However, having found their kindred spirits, the men forge a plan to hold onto the works of art they hold most dear. Though hardly criminal masterminds, their inflamed hearts drive them to plan and execute the most daring art heist ever conceived from the inside – with bumblingly hilarious results!

----------
If you love art and comedy, this movie is for you. This made me laugh out loud. Fabulous actors doing funny scenes in the most simple way. It just makes you laugh to no end!
