Act it Out: Summer Boredom Solutions

Thanks to my friend Alex Yankovish for the guest post.

Summer can be an inescapable, boring holiday if you don’t know how to handle it. Our family usually comes up with something just at the last minute, but we always do one thing every year and that’s go to the outdoor amphitheatre. The amphitheatre has different plays every week during the summer, including on holidays like the 4th of July.

Some days we bring snacks and watch the play in the afternoon before it gets too hot. On rainy days, we like to act out the play at home since the amphitheatre is usually closed. We make a stage at home and use curtains and blankets to create a fun experience for the kids. Sometimes we stay home and make up our own plays and let the kids decide what the skits should be about.

As a parent, letting your kids creativity grow is a fun experience to watch and giving them the opportunity to see other people’s creativity in action or to create their own play can really make a difference. We always take a day every week to be together as a family this way; we turn on the satellite TV, close the blinds and watch TV as a family. Were able to find great family programming through tvbydirect.com We make a special pact to be together at least one night a week during the summer so that we can keep up with everything that’s going on in each other’s lives.
