The Right to Hang Laundry

I seldom see people who hangs their laundry outside the house in the clothesline. I was thinking that maybe because most people owns a washer/dryer or else they just go to the laundry mat. I didn't know that in some states it is prohibited by law. Florida, Utah, Maine, Vermont, Colorado, and Hawaii have passed laws restricting the rights of local authorities to stop residents using clotheslines. Another five states are considering similar measures.

In the place where I grew up, drying your laundry outside is the only means. All the yards has clothesline attached to the trees. In fact you can even hang your laundry in the neighbor's clothesline if is vacant. Here in the USA it is a different story.

Project Laundry List is a group that is fighting for the rights to hang laundry. They believed that people can save money and reduce carbon emissions by not using their electric or gas dryers. So, what do you think? Do you want a right to hang laundry...???

For me, it is a matter of where you live and where you hang your laundry and what clothes you want to hang... I don't think that it is alright to hang your underwear in front of your house where neighbors can see them. In the USA where it is not very common to hang laundry, I guess you can hang yours at your back where less people can see it....

Why on earth would anyone want to ban the ability to hang laundry?!

I grew up helping my mother hang clothes on the clothesline in our backyard, playing with the clothespins, and playing hide & seek between all the sheets drying. Plus, nothing smells quite as nice as air dried linens.

We moved around a lot, from the South to mid-West and the Northeast. No one ever made a fuss about it.
