Mangosteen

The mangosteen fruit has become more widely known in the western world over the last several years. Xanthones are some very powerful antioxidants that have been found within mangosteen. Over more than the last 400 years, mangosteen has been used in Asian countries for a number of different health concerns. Western countries are now doing their own research and realizing the benefits of the mangosteen.

Mangosteen contains approximately 40 different xanthones within the extracts of the pericarp. For many years in South East Asia, the pericarp of the mangosteen has been used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of skin infections and wounds.

Two weeks ago, while we were at Mom's I saw a magazine where the mangosteen was featured. I was telling Mom about how good it was and that the one's from Davao are very sweet. When we went to Asian store today, I bought Mom a Mangosteen in the can. That was the closest that I can give for her to try how mangosteen tastes like since fresh mangosteen is not available here.
