A Diamond in the Rough

Reading for me is a great escape from the pressures of life, in addition to watching satellite tv package deals when I am not reading. A book I strongly recommend is A Diamond in the Rough by Lena Williamson. The story follows the life of a young woman, Diamond Chase. After falling in love and looking forward to expanding her family with the birth of her first child, Diamond finds out that life is not a fairytale. The loss of her fiance in a car accident propels Diamond to fend for herself and three month old baby. Diamonds determination to make a place for herself in the world actually results in her destruction.

This story is one of love, loss, self discovery and death. To make money, Diamond is lured into the world of prostitution and pornography. Diamond suffers the same fate of many young girls when they enter into a lifestyle where they do not belong, she gets eaten alive.

This story resonates with me because I can relate. The single mother, the young woman unsure of what life has to offer and the woman trying to make a bright future out of a dark past can all relate. We see ourselves in this character and hope to find our way and make a name for ourselves that we can be proud of.
