An Important Decision

The blood that flows through a newborn baby's umbilical cord is a precious source of stem cells. Unfortunately in most cases this lifesaving blood is discarded because parents are not aware of the benefits of cord blood banking. According to a survey conducted by Journal of Reproductive Medicine, 1 in 3 pregnant women never learn about cord blood banking and 45% of pregnant women are unaware that their baby’s cord blood could be used to help a sibling .

All pregnant women should know about cord blood banking. The importance of cord blood banking is becoming more evident as the list of diseases treatable with umbilical cord blood continues to grow. Cord blood transplants has been very successful as demonstrated when umbilical cord blood was first use for transplantation in 1988, in France, for a patient with Fanconi's anemia. Since then, the continuous research never stops and cord blood has saved many lives. As of today, cord blood treats 73 different diseases.

When deciding to bank the blood cord, parents has nothing to worry about because collection of umbilical cord blood is simple and safe. It poses no risk or discomfort to the mother or newborn child. The blood is extracted from the placenta after the baby is born and after the umbilical cord has been cut.

Another important thing to consider when banking your child's cord blood is the reliability of the cord bank. Cryo-Cell is one of the largest and most established family cord blood banks and they operate under the industry’s highest levels of quality certifications and accreditations. Please read Cryo-Cell selection criteria and I am sure you will decide to use this blood bank in storing your baby's cord blood.

Make the decision today to help your child in the future. Bank your child's cord blood.
