Monday Movie Meme: Books in the Movies

When I saw the theme for this week, the first movie that came to my mind was The Book of Eli. Then it took me a long time to think of movies that has a lot of books on it.

So, I decided to just go on with my choices. My choices are the following:
Book of Eli - A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
Phenomenon - An ordinary man sees a bright light descend from the sky, and discovers he now has super-intelligence and telekinesis.

Nim's Island - A young girl inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she's reading.

Monday Movie Meme: Weight

I am back although almost late! I missed playing along for a couple of weeks. For this week, here's my list of movie.

Big Momma's House.... Martin Lawrence has to wear something for him to look like big momma. I love this movie and I can't wait for the new one.

The Informant... Matt Damon has to gain weight for his role. I believed he has to eat a lot and in the course of the movie gained 30 lbs for his role as Informant.

Syriana .... George Clooney gained weight for his role too. Well, I am sure he didn't mind as he won an award for his role.

Body of Lies... I like the movie Body of Lies, I can't believe that Russell Crowe gained over 60 lbs for that movie.

Monday Movie Meme: Money

This week's movie meme is all about money. Movies that hat focus on making money, finding money, losing money, stealing money or spending money. Here's my list:

• Ocean's Eleven - Danny Ocean and his ten accomplices plan to rob three Las Vegas casinos simultaneously.
• Wall Street - A young and impatient stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider whom takes the youth under his wing.
• Entrapment - An insurance agent is sent by her employer to track down and help capture an art thief.
• Taxi - A mouthy and feisty taxicab driver has hot tips for a green and inept cop set on solving a string of New York City bank robberies committed by a quartet of female Brazilian bank robbers.
• Casino - Greed, deception, money, power, and murder occur between two mobster best friends and a trophy wife over a gambling empire.
• Slumdog Millionaire - A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers.

Monday Movie Meme: Bad Accent

Let's talk about bad accent. The first thing that came to my mind is Brad Pitt playing Inglorious Basterds. His accent was horrible yet funny in a way.

Who can ever forget Kevin Costner with his role in Robinhood: Prince of the Thieves? Isn't that the worst accent?

Monday Movie Meme: Illness

This week, let's talk about favorite movies that centers on illness...

These are my picks:

• Extraordinary Measures - is based on the true story of John Crowley, a man who fought the system to pursue a cure for his child’s life threatening disease. Two of his kids were suffering from Pompe Disease... a disease with no cure.
• My Sister's Keeper - a story about Anna who was purposely conceived to be a donor to her leukemia-stricken sister.
• 50 First Dates - this is about short term memory loss
• Radio - this is about an autistic kid who defies the odds to become one of the most successful high school football coaches ever.
• PHENOMENON - An ordinary man sees a bright light descend from the sky, and discovers he now has super-intelligence and telekinesis. I capitalize this because its hubby's fave movie and geez I cry river of tears on this movie. The way they profess their love is just so touching. "Will you love me for the rest of my life? No, I will love you for the rest of mine" is a line that I will never forget in that movie.
  

I like A Beautiful Mind too but since The Bumbles mentioned it already, I jut didn't list it here.

Monday Movie Meme: All in the Family

The first thing that comes to mind when talking about Family Dynamics is the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I just love this movie because it makes me remind of home (Philippines). The traditions, family values and of course the wedding preparations are just like our traditional wedding. I can relate so much of the movie thus it is one of my favorites.

Monday Movie Meme: Movie Theater Pet Peeves

This is really simple. I hate people talking to loud while the movie is going on and I hate those beeping cellphones!

When I watched a movie in the movie house, I either switch my cellphone off or put it on vibrate. I want a common courtesy on this thing. I just hate those people who keeps on their phone while the movie is on going.

I also hate a dirty movie house. Those sticky seats and popcorn everywhere. They are suppose to clean it before every movie starts.

Monday Movie Meme: Paradise

New Zealand is a paradise as shown in Lord of the Rings. That was the first thought that came to my mind when I read today's theme for Monday Movie Meme. Oh... New Zealand is definitely on my travel list. Another thing that convinced me to visit NZ is my sister's family will be migrating there next year.

I also like to visit Montana as I find it very pretty as shown in Legends of the Fall. I am weird. I like snow!

Monday Movie Meme: Mind Games

Mind game movies are one of my favorites. I like to watch these type of movies because it keeps my adrenaline going, it makes my mind wonder what is going to happen next.

Here's my faves:

• Bourne Series. I love them all. No questions ask.
  
  
• Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal Lecter is one of cinema’s most maniacal manipulators.
  
  
• The Usual Suspects. Criminals raid a cocaine shipment on the orders of Keyser Soze, a mythical criminal mastermind. But nothing is as it seems.
  
  
• The Manchurian Candidate. The Soviets brainwash a U.S. soldier into becoming a Communist assassin.
  
  
• Basic Instinct. The sex and violence in this Sharon Stone movie was so shocking.

Monday Movie Meme: Afterlife

When it comes to afterlife movies, the following movies come to my mind...

Heart and Souls
One of my hubby's favorite. Robert Downy is just so good at his role.
Heart and Souls is a 1993 fantasy/comedy film about the souls of four deceased people who are trapped on earth and can only be seen by a single living human being who is recruited to help them take care of their unfinished business. The movie was directed by Ron Underwood and was filmed in San Francisco.

Heaven Can Wait
A Los Angeles Rams quarterback, accidentally taken away from his body by an over-anxious angel before he was supposed to die, comes back to life in the body of a recently-murdered millionaire.

The Lovely Bones
I like how this movie is being narrated.
Centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

What Dreams May Come
Oh I just love this love story.
Chris Neilson dies to find himself in a heaven more amazing than he could have ever dreamed of. There is one thing missing: his wife. The plot centers on Chris, a man who dies and goes to Heaven, but eventually descends into Hell to rescue his wife.

Ghost
It is a sentimental story of eternal love between characters Sam and Molly (Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore), but the real star was Whoopi Goldberg and her portrayal of Oda Mae Brown, a fake psychic who suddenly finds that she can hear the dead.

Monday Movie Meme: The Worst Movie

So far, this are the worst movie that I have ever seen...

The Happening
Okay I love Mark Wahlberg thus I was so excited to rent the movie. It was a disappointment. I will never buy this movie for sure!

Storyline
Elliot Moore is a high school science teacher who quizzes his class one day about an article in the New York Times. It's about the sudden, mysterious disappearance of bees. Yet again Nature is doing something inexplicable, and whatever science has to say about it will be, in the end, only a theory. Scientists will bring out more theories, but no explanations, when a more urgent dilemma hits the planet. It begins in Central Park. Suddenly and inexplicably, the behavior of everyone in the park changes in a most bizarre and horrible way. Soon, the strange behavior spreads throughout the city and beyond. Elliot, his wife, Alma, and Jess, the young daughter of a friend, will only have theories to guide them where to run and where to hide. But theories may not be enough.

We've Sensed It. We've Seen The Signs. Now... It's Happening.... I hated it!


The Way of War
Cuba Gooding, Jr. is one of the actors that I admire as he can really perform well. This movie was just a disaster. Waste of my time. Definitely hated it.

Storyline
Paramilitary operative David Wolfe stumbles upon an international conspiracy connecting presidential cabinet members to a Middle Eastern terrorist plot. Wanting to expose the truth, Wolfe defies orders and returns to the US as an army of one fighting for American security and integrity.

Another movie that no way will I ever buy a copy!

Monday Movie Meme: The King of Horror

I admit, Stephen King is really good! He has a way of making his movies really awesome. I really don't watch a lot of horror movies as it is not my favorite. Anyhow, I have seen a few of his horror movies and it is really good.

One that I particularly like is the 1408. It is about the cynical and skeptical writer Mike Enslin writes books evaluating supernatural phenomena in hotels, graveyards and other haunted places, usually debunking the mystery. While writing his last book, he travels from Los Angeles to New York to spend one night in the evil room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel, which is permanently unavailable for guests. The reluctant manager Mr. Gerald Olin objects to his request and offers an upgrade, expensive booze and finally the reports relating the death of more than fifty guests along decades in the cursed room. However, Mike threatens Mr. Oiln, promising to sue the hotel, and finally checks in the room. Along the night, he finds that guests of room 1408 can check out when they like, but they can never leave the room alive.

Oh, I know I miss last week's entry because we were all just got so busy. Thus, I can't risk not joining this week, thus I am making my entry before I go to bed.

For future legends of the movie world here's my predictions:

Leonardo di Caprio

But such as rich, varied career is what you would expect from someone who has had such an unusual upbring as DiCaprio.

Fourteen of the 19 fiction films he has acted in have accumulated a worldwide grosses of over $100 million, and 4 of them took in over $500 million in global box office receipts. His most financially successful films have been Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Independence Day, Men in Black, Men in Black II, I, Robot, The Pursuit of Happyness, I Am Legend, Hancock, Wild Wild West, Enemy of the State, Shark Tale, Hitch and Seven Pounds. Matt Damon
Matthew Paige "Matt" Damon (born October 8, 1970) is an American actor, screenwriter, and philanthropist whose career was launched following the success of the film Good Will Hunting (1997), from a screenplay he co-wrote with friend Ben Affleck. The pair won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay for their work and Damon garnered multiple Best Actor nominations, including the Academy Award, for his lead performance in the film.

Monday Movie Meme: Hidden Gems

These are the movies that I think deserves more than what the got in the box office. They surely are overlooked but I am sure that they deserve a chance to be seen by many.

This drama epic starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman was scorned by critics and audiences alike, but look at the reviews carefully: there aren’t too many damning reviews. In fact, there are a lot of favorable ones – just not so favorably to boost the picture into Oscar contention. Australia is a fun, entertaining drama.

The passage from this world to the fantasy kingdom of Stormhold is through a breech in a wall beside an English village. In the 1800s, a boy becomes a man when he ventures through the breech in pursuit of a fallen star, to prove his love for the village beauty. The star is no lump of rock, it's a maiden, Yvaine. Tristan, the youth, is not the only one looking for her: three witches, led by Lamia, want her heart to make them young; and, the sons of the dead king of Stormhold want her because she holds a ruby that will give one of them title to the throne. Assisting Tristan are his mother, the victim of a spell, and a transvestite pirate of the skies. Will Tristan win his true love?

Jerry, a junkyard worker, attempts to sabotage a power plant that he believes is melting his brain. But when his plan goes awry, the magnetic field that he creates accidentally erases all of the videotapes in a local video store where his best friend Mike works. Fearing that the mishap will cost Mike his job, the two friends team up to keep the store's only loyal customer - a little old lady with a tenuous grasp on reality - from realizing what has happened by recreating and re-filming every movie that she decides to rent. From "Back to the Future," to "Robocop," to "Rush Hour," to "The Lion King," Jerry and Mike become the biggest stars in their neighborhood by starring in the biggest movies ever made.

These movies are really action packed but they never had a chance in the box office for some reasons. It is really good and I was so surprise to know that these movies are already in the $5 rack of DVDs.
