Nostalgia #11: Chickens

Backyard raising of chicken is very common in the Philippines. It is not only for egg production but also for chicken meat. Native chickens as they are called has better meat than those that are raised for 45days only.

I miss the early mornings where chicken noises wake you up instead of an alarm clock. When chickens are making noises it means time to get up and throw some grains on them.

I remember the days (when we were really really poor... take note, we are still poor) when we have to dress 1 chicken for our birthday. Mom will just put a lot of water in the chicken soup and slice the chicken meat into small sizes and divide it before we start to eat to make sure that all of us gets its share. After we have dinner we will share a bottle of cola which means we also have to divide the cola. Oftentimes each of us will get a share of just half a small glass. Those were the days... simple... without complications...but we didn't complain and we are always grateful of what we have.

Address Plaques

I am not the best in remembering places or houses. In most instances, I tend to forget homes of friends even if I have been to their house once or twice. I am the opposite of my husband. Hubby always remembers the place even if he had only been there once.

Home address plaques help me in remembering homes of my friends. Not all of my friends have home address plaques but those that have one always sticks on my mind. So, I guess I need to request that they should have one or else they will endure in my endless asking of directions going to their place.

I have a friend who lives in a large subdivision. With houses build in the same styles and painted in the same colors, I always find it hard to go their place. I am just lucky that the address signs in every street in the whole subdivision are very clear thus it help me get the right direction. Just recently, my friend decided to put a hanging address plaque in front of their house, I am sure I will never get lost going to her house again!

My elder sister Inday Lita is celebrating her 45th birthday today.... I am glad that I was somehow a part of her birthday celebration. I was able to voice and video chat with them earlier. They were also able to see Andrea and Dave. We are all so happy to see the whole family.

Mommy Moments: Park Day

Andrea loves the park. What kids doesn't anyway! Summer here in Alabama is like summer in Philippines... super hot and very humid! We haven't brought Andrea to the park because the heat is too much. The parks are actually deserted these days. But during fall where it is not too cool to be in the park, the park is always a great place to be.

Andrea is a daredevil when it comes to big slides. She loves it and she would yell "weeeee". She doesn't like the swing her favorite so far are the slides and wall climbing.

Let me begin by saying that I am a mother of four, who works part-time, and has a loving husband, who needs constant attention. So, anything that can relieve me of my everyday stress, most definitely gets my vote. Nonetheless, this show is a smart comedy about a family and their in laws, who actually live right across the street. I enjoy watching the predicaments that the husband, Ray, finds himself in. He is forever trying to get over on his wife, so that he can find some undeserving relaxation, but always seems to get caught. Also, I love his mother's character, because she is always involved in her son's business, including his love life. That alone makes for a great comedy. Even more, I love Ray's brother Robert, who always comes in second place when it comes to his brother, and does not mind making that frustration known to his family. I really love how they express a realistic view of a family in that type of situation. However, this family always sticks together, no matter what the cost, and I believe that is how a family should be. I love Everybody Love's Raymond, and it will always be my favorite comedy show of all times.

Peek-a-boo

Peekaboo (also spelled Peek-a-boo) is a game played with babies. In the game, the older player hides their face, pops back into the baby's view, and says Peekaboo! sometimes followed by I see you!

While we went out to dine last weekend, Andrea met a boy (almost) her age at the next booth. They were having so much fun playing peek-a-boo. You can hear their giggles. It was a cute scene. I was thinking.... were they just plainly playing or were they flirting.... ???? Hmmp! Hahaha

Sizzling Hot... Time to Cool Off

Oh my gosh the weather is so excruciatingly hot! This time of the year is way hotter compared last year. The hot weather is almost unbearable. It make me wish that I can spend my whole summer at any of the resorts in Myrtle Beach. Wouldn't it be perfect to have the cool breeze from the ocean blowing on your face? Naturalization Journey

I submitted my application for Naturalization last April 2010. After few months of waiting, I finally got an interview. I am excited!

Next month is my schedule for interview. I need to review my knowledge on Civics as it will be part of the interview process.

Mommy Moments: Rides on Amusement Center

We don't go to amusement center very often because Andrea would rather play in the playground with slides. She likes the slide better than any other. The pictures you can see below was taken when we first visited Chuckee Cheese. She really didn't enjoy the rides very much although we tried to let her try them.




She liked riding the jeep better which we found in the nearby Veterans Park.

Internship

Internship is a requirement to earn a degree. I always like the idea of learning new things outside the classroom. I didn't experience internship because of my different situation. I was a full time office worker already when I was studying for my college degree. I was not required to do internship since my working experience compensates for the number of hours required for internship.

Anyway, when I was younger I always dream of experiencing international internship. I have known a few who were lucky enough to pass the requirements to do their internship abroad. Nostalgia #9: Ferry Ride

I miss the fun while on a ferry ride. I live with my elder sister when I was still in the Philippines. Sometimes, we prefer to go shopping to Cebu because it only took 2 hours to go there from Tubigon, Bohol where we live. We always have so much fun in the ferry especially if the kids are with us.

During one of Dave's vacation, we also experience ferry rides and the picture above is one of them.
