Family Get-Away

Dave and I love to travel. If only we have enough budget, we will be traveling all the time... we will be trotting around the globe while our little girl is not yet in school.

Planning a perfect family get away needs time. It is important to make sure that everything is well taken cared of. Before planning a trip it is important to consider the budget, what type of activities you want and how do you want your get away to be.

I found a good article on how to find a perfect holiday home. This article discusses a lot of traveling tips and how to choose a family home for your vacation. We all know that choosing the right place to stay during your holiday vacation is an important factor to have a memorable vacation. I am sure you don't want to be stuck in a place you don't want to be in. Thus, it is important to research and choose a good place to stay during your vacation because home rental constitutes a big chunk of your vacation budget.

I always believed that a well-planned vacation is worry-free. Anyway, Thanksgiving and Christmas season is around the corner. This is the perfect time to plan your holiday vacation because during those days working people will be free from work so it will be good to have a family get-away.

I remember that last year Dave and I went to Athens, Georgia for a weekend get-away. It was more than 5 hours drive from our place but I enjoyed the drive because I saw different things on the way to our destination. I even saw a lot of stylish billboards. I wonder what will be the criteria in creating poster advertising. Hmmm just a thought!

October: Month of the Holy Rosary

The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful.

The feast was introduced by Pope St. Pius V (1504-1572) in the year 1571 to commemorate the miraculous victory of the Christian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. The pope attributed more to the "arms" of the Rosary than the power of cannons and the valor of the soldiers who fought there.

Legend tells us that the Rosary as a form of prayer was given to St. Dominic (1170- 1221) by Mary, the Mother of Our Lord, who entrusted it to him as an aid in the conflicts with the Albigensians. The Dominican pope, St. Pius V, did much to further the spread of the Rosary and it thereafter became one of the most popular devotions in Christendom. It was the same Pope St. Pius V, who in 1569 officially approved the Rosary in its present form with the Papal Bull, Consueverunt Romani Pontifices. It had been completed by the addition of the second half of the "Hail Mary" and the "Glory be to the Father" at the conclusion of each mystery.

Read more here...

******************************

My mom is a very religious lady. Part of our family tradition is to pray the rosary together as a family the whole month of October. It is a family obligation for us. Even when we live in Manila, we always make sure that we pray the Rosary together during the Rosary month. I miss that and I miss the "aurora" where people will sing the rosary in different station (at dawn) and culminate it with a Mass and procession.

Importance of Web Directories

Submitting your own website to a free web directory is a very economical way in which you can obtain visitors to your web site. These free web directories can send you free traffic. When a website appears in several directories its value (Page Rank, Traffic and Relevance) increases. New websites tend to have a hard time getting links that point to them. Web directories are a great way in which this new websites can get various links. SEO friendly web directory will help your website be indexed by Search Engines.

There are so many free web directories available in the internet today. If you are unsure where to get started with submitting your site to web directories, then you should start with DMOZ. This web directory will allow your site and its ranking to move up in its results rather quickly, which is good for your web site since Google and other Search Engines view DMOZ as being very reliable. If your web site is a business website you can choose to submit your link to business.com. There are other free web directories like Yahoo Directory, BOTW and a lot more. I advise you not to stop at one or two directories only. Make sure to submit your site to as many as you can. But before submitting your website to search engines and web directories, make sure that it doesn't have any pages under construction. Also, pay attention to the website navigation and usability.

Blogging for Profit

Review us

I admit, I am one of those bloggers who aspire to make a mark (financially, that is!) in the world of blogging. It is hardwork, but I enjoyed doing it. I enjoyed visiting and reading other blogs and I even gain friends in the blogosphere. It is actually fun to blog and it gets addicting.

There are many websites that let's you do different blog advertising. Of course, you have to choose the ones that are reliable and gives you reasonable price for your work. You can read reviews and also ask your blogger friends what paid review sites is the best.

In order that your blog will get the attention of different advertisers, it is a plus factor if your blog has high page rank and is indexed by different web directories. You can submit your blog at Yahoo Directory, DMOZ or any other web directories in order for your blog to be noticed and become popular.

There is a way to make money with your blogs and I want you to grab this opportunity to start earning while doing what you love to do. There are some tips on how to move from blogging for leisure to blogging for profit. Start earning today.

TCP: For the Entire Family

Andrea is still too young to watch movies with us. I choose this movie as "For the Entire Family" movie because we let our friend's kids (ages 10 and below) watched it with us. This is really a very inspiring movie.

The Secret Garden
Young Mary Lennox is orphaned by an earthquake in India and sent to England to live with her uncle in a cold ancestral manor in Yorkshire. Mary briefly meets him, still mourning for the wife who died ten years ago, but she is mostly left on her own. A resourceful and inquisitive girl, she soon makes two exciting discoveries. First she finds an overgrown secret garden, the favourite of her aunt and locked up since her death. Second, that she has a cousin, Colin, a sickly lad who has been told he must remain in bed out of the daylight at all times. Once Mary and another new friend, local lad Dickon, have brought the garden back to life they decide Colin must see it, a decision that will change several lives.

Managing Credit Cards

Credit cards are very useful in times of emergency. When you don't have the money in hand during emergencies such as car breaking down, or flood or fire, using your credit card can solve your immediate problem. Having a credit card and using it wisely by making payments on time will help you build a good credit history. A good credit history will help you when applying for things such as loans, rental application or even landing a good job.

For individuals who is trying to build its credit history, applying for a Prepaid Credit Card is a start. If credit card companies can't approve your credit card application due to lack of credit history, applying for a Prepaid Credit Card or Prepaid Mastercard is the best solution. By using your prepaid credit card and paying it in a timely manner, you can start building your credit history. Most companies that offer prepaid credit card will offer you a regular credit card after you build relationship with them.

Like most things, there are advantages and disadvantages to credit cards. You should know your limits on how much you can pay every month. You should try to avoid spending money that you don't have. Managing your credit card will help your credit history.

Anyway, if you want to shop without the worries of bringing a big amount of cash, you can use prepaid debit card offered by AchieveCard. This prepaid debit card is reloadable and will be accepted at any location that accepts Mastercard. This is the most safe and secure means of carrying cash. Using this prepaid debit card is a good way to shop because it won't allow you to spend more than what you have so there will be no risk of overspending.

LET Postponed

I got a text message from my brother informing us that LET has been postponed due to typhoon Ondoy. Although it was sunny in Cebu, (where he will take his LET exam) the exam was postponed because of the flooding conditions in Manila. LET exam should be administered simultaneously in order for "leakage" to be avoided.

Anyway, the LET exam will be scheduled next weekend (October 4, 2009). I hope that this time, it will be pushed through because it means another set of expenses going back to Cebu again.

Goodluck....

Today is Sunday in Philippine Time and right now, my elder brother Loloy is taking his Licensure Examination for Teachers.

My brother Loloy has a degree in Computer Science. He had a two year teaching job at a Catholic School in our hometown but the administrators decided not to renew his contract because he is not a licensed teacher. We all decided that Loloy needs to take BSE-Qualifying. After more than a year of going back to school, he earned enough credits for him to take LET...

Loloy is presently holding a teaching position in one of the Catholic Schools in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. But of course, we still want him to be a licensed teacher so that he can find a permanent teaching job. He has 3 daughters so having a permanent teaching job will greatly help them.

If he will pass the LET, he will be the third licensed teacher in our family. My elder sister Sylvia is a licensed teacher major in History while my younger brother Jerome is a licensed teacher major in Mathematics.

Goodluck Loy....

Mommy Moments : That's My Favorite

What's your child's favorite? Do you want to know other kids' favorites? Check out Mommy Moments by clicking at the image below...!

mommy moments

Andrea has a lot of favorites even if she is not yet 2 years old. Take a look at some of them...

She loves swimming... but I don't let her swim a lot because she is prone to ear infection. In fact she had an ear tube surgery last February.

These are her favorite movies. She knows how to switch on the DVD player now and she will give you the DVD remote if she wants to watch any of these.

This is her favorite pajama set. Of course it is Dora... She owns more than one of this because she wants to wear it all the time.

Andrea's Favorite at the moment is Dora... so she has
  • Dora ball
  • Dora books
  • Dora doll
  • Dora hats
  • Dora sandals and shoes
  • Dora clothes
......... anything that has Dora she loves it!

Before I forget, she loves jumping in the bed and she loves to eat (she is not picky which I hope will be forever). Her favorite child playmate is Alex and she loves staying with her Nana and Papa Dan.

College Football

Our Saturdays are mostly spent watching college football. College football has so many followers in the USA. We are one of their avid followers. Since tomorrow is Saturday, expect us to be in our living room watching, cheering and shouting while watching the game. The funny thing is, when Andrea sees a football game she will shout too it is her way of cheering. Watching her do that tickles me.

I am glad that my cable provider which is Direct TV has a very clear presentation on all games even in their local channels. Our DirectTV package includes sports so we can always flick channels on different games.

Anyway, during the rest of the days where there is no football, I can always watch Filipino channel because Directv has international packages and I am glad that they have Filipino channel available in our area.

Business Phone System

Every business needs a reliable way to communicate. The success of the business is always a challenge. One of the most challenging part in your business to is be able to have a reliable phone system. It is a fact that a lot of business transactions are done through telephones. If you are looking for a solution to your phone system needs, you have to check out Market Communications. I Love Pearls

We are all familiar with the saying "Diamonds are girls best friend". This does not apply to me because I prefer Pearls. To me diamonds are just too flashy while pearls are more elegant and classy.

I have always been fascinated with gold and pearl earrings. When I saw the Genuine 7-8mm AAA Round Pearl Earrings which is made from 14k Solid Gold at OrientalPearls.net, I feel in love with it right away! I just love its design.
Who can resist this one? Not me!!!!

Baseball Fantasy... I LOST!

I had high hopes for my baseball fantasy team... then at the quarterfinals I lost my best players... Hamilton and Justin Morneau did not play anymore. During the quarterfinals, I lost 4-5-1... I was disappointed because all through that week I was ahead only to find out at the last moment that I lost the match up.

I conditioned myself not to be disappointed because there was still hope for third place. (I won a virtual trophy for 3rd place last year) But then, yesterday, I lost 4-5-1 again... huhuhuhu.....

No virtual trophy from baseball for me this year.... I hope I will get one from football as I joined football fantasy for the first time....

So far my football fantasy team is doing great! I hope it will stay like this .... wish me luck for another virtual trophy!!!

AlmostDiamonds.com Review

I was surfing the net, hoping to find an affordable jewelry website, where it is safe to purchase different types of jewelries. At the moment, I am looking for some Cubic Zirconia Jewelry because one of my friends, is interested about this kind of jewelry. She collects different Sterling Silver Rings. She already have a lot in her collection but she wanted more.

Anyway, I stumbled upon AlmostDiamonds.com. As I was thoroughly browsing their website, I find some beautiful designs of Cubic Zirconia Engagement Rings. This type of engagement rings are an affordable alternative to a natural diamond engagement ring. One of my favorite designs in their collection is the 2 CT Brilliant Swirl Cubic Zirconia Engagement Ring. This ring is very elegant looking and I love its swirling design. The picture below will show you how beautiful the ring is.

Monday Movie Meme: The Good Old Days

This week's theme of Monday Movie Meme is somewhat hard on me because I can't really relate on this.

You see, I grew up in a small town in the Philippines where a lot doesn't even have electricity in the common households. I admit, we had our electricity when I was 15 years old. We didn't own a television set until few years later.

When it comes to favorite movies during my childhood years, I can't name anything because I never had access to movies during my childhood years.

My filipino readers can understand that most of us in the Philippines are addicted to different television series. As far as I can remember, I watched teleseries at my neighbor's house (who was well off and owns the only television in our place when I was like 10 years old or younger). I know I got addicted to "Agila" and "Mara Clara". These are famous teleseries in the Philippines. As years passed by, there were so many teleseries in different TV channels that I lost count of it.

Anyway, besides the teleseries, most of the people in our place are into radio programs (drama programs). I admit, we spend most of our nights listening to radio dramas before bedtime. We listened to "Kulafu" and most of "Teban and Goliath's radio dramas".

This is my share of the "good old days". If you want to know some of the good old days favorites of this meme, please visit The Bumbles Blog.

The Power of Vapor Bath

Andrea was not feeling good for the past few days. She has slight fever, stuffed and then runny nose. She felt bad after her dad got sick. There are times that she just don't want to run around (that's her daily routine). She still plays with her kitchen stuff and blocks but she always wants me to play with her.

As a mom, you all know how it feels when your lil one gets sick especially like Andrea's age where she still unable to tell me what she really feels. I kept on monitoring Andrea because I am worried that she will get flu since it is already flu season.

Anyway, I did gave Andrea a couple of vapor baths and it really did wonders for her. Andrea loves her baths and the gentle vapors provide soothing comfort for her.

Andrea woke up in her usual high spirits today, she is feeling better although she is still coughing. She was able to sleep well last night and she doesn't have fever anymore.

For mommies out there, if your babies have colds, try giving them vapor bath... it will work wonders....

Informative Magazine for You and Me

There are plenty of clinical nursing sites that is available in the internet today. I like the nurse's guide to good living because it is inspiring, uplifting, and fun. This magazine tackles not only professional issues but as well as personal issues. It discusses the joys and challenges in the nursing profession. It also shares the rewards and triumphs a nurse has experienced. This is about everything and anything that concerns the busy life of a nurse.

I love reading the nurse's guide to good living because it is a very good source of information when you are dealing with a hypochondriac patient? In their "Expert Answers" section they will tell you all about hypochondriac symptoms and some tips on how to deal with a hypochondriac patient. Another interesting section of this magazine is the Job Market. In this section they will provide readers with useful information such as best places to be a nurse and why it is the best place to work.

Anyway, we all know that a nurse wears scrubs for work. Wearing a scrub at all times can be boring. A nurse can wear a scrub and still be stylish by wearing accessories and wear a great hairstyle. In order to look great in scrubs, it is important to get the right fit, wear those colors that complements your complexion, and never wear scrubs that are in poor condition, wrinkled or stained. A nurse should wear in style scrubs in order to be fashionable.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabertooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.
-----------------

I have been waiting for this movie to be released in DVD. New DVD releases every Tuesday. Wolverine was released last Tuesday, but Dave was sick that day so we were not able to rent the DVD. Last night, we finally rented the movie and watched it.

I was not disappointed because the movie was really good. We had a good time watching it. I am thinking if they will do all the stories of X-Men Origins, I will surely watch all of them.

After watching Wolverine last night, it made me want to watch the X-Men series again. Well, good thing I have it in our DVD collection. Maybe this is the time to do our X-Men movie marathon...... I can't wait!

Book for Kids

Andrea even at her very young age owns a lot of books already. We always wanted her to learn to love the books. Dave and I are both book lovers so, we made sure that Andrea will have her share of books.

Andrea's Nana and Papa Dan, her Uncle John and Aunt Terri bought her books too. I am so glad that Andrea loves her books and she likes looking at its pictures. When we read to her she always listens and very interested.

Teaching your kids to read books starting at young age is very important. I have seen my friend's kids who just love to read. Michelle at age 7 has already read different books including the Harry Potter series. I am so glad and impress at how good she is. This coming Christmas, I know what I will give her. I will give her the book entitled Chin and the Magic Stones as our Christmas present for her. I am sure she will like this book because she loves stories that are full of adventures. This book has very good reviews, that is why I have no qualms of buying this for Michelle.

Guys, if you are looking for a good Christmas present for your children or godchildren, Chin and the Magic Stones book is a perfect idea. If you want to know more about the book, you can read it at www.chinmagic.com.

Atis is the Philippine name for Sweet Sop and Sugar Apple. We used to have a this near our kitchen. We not only eat the fruit but its leaves is also used as medicinal plant. We soak the leaves in a drinking water and drink the water as treatment for cough. We also used the leaves for sprain.

Guava...one of my favorites. I can buy this at some asian stores but holy cow it is very expensive. I love eating this while dipping it in a salt and vinegar mixture. Of course we have this also in our front yard. We used its leaves for cleaning and disinfecting wounds by rinsing the afflicted area with a decoction of the leaves.

Guyabano or Soursoup, the flesh of the fruit consist of a white edible pulp. We also have this fruit planted in the front yard. I always remember having to keep an eye of the fruit when it is already shiny because it means the fruit is almost ripe. We have to pick it right away or else bats will be feasting on it at night time.

Mangosteen fruit is round in shape, dark-purple, 2 to 3 inches in diameter and contains 4 to 8 segments of snow-white, delicious soft flesh. The fruit may or may not contain seeds. Encasing the flesh is a purple skin 6 to 10 cm thick. We don't have this and is only common in Davao area but it surely is soooo good!

Dalandan is our local orange. It is not very common in Bohol but when i was in Manila you can buy it everywhere. I used to buy one kilo (2.2lbs) and eat it alone... and as usual i eat these with salt.

Indian mango. Nothing beats this when talking about eating green mango. Of all the mango varieties, this is the best when eaten green. I usually eat this with shrimp paste or a mixture of soy sauce and vinegar. Oh i miss this for sure!

Kalamansi or little green lime. This is a very popular souring agent in a Filipino cuisine. We also make this as our juice.

Lanzones ... i just don't know the english term of this but this is really delicious. During its season, this is affordable and we usually just buy and eat a lot the problem is the juice of its peeling stains your fingers. But of course nobody minds the stain it is worth the trouble. The taste of the fruit is just so delicious!!!

Jackfruit... as dave says it smells like FEET! But of course my husband doesn't know anything hahaha. We used to grow a lot of these when we were young and we it was planted in the farm owned by my grandfather. You can't miss the smell of this when it is ripe. When it is green we cooked it too and it is a delicious meal. When i was in an asian store, i saw a canned jackfruit, intrigued by it i bought two cans... to my disappointment, it is nothing compared to the real one.

Rambutan, this is not a common fruit in Bohol specially in my hometown. When i was living with my sister their neighbor has a rambutan tree plant. We can sometimes buy this fruit in the town where my sister lives but usually it is also grown commonly in Davao area.

Santol, the fruit is round and yellow with a very thick skin and segments inside which are very tasty. I love this and as usual i dip it with salt.

Star Fruit... I remember this fruit when I was in grade school. We have a small tree but it didn't have enough fruits then. Our neighbor has 3 big trees that has a lot of fruits. We used to ask them for it we picked as many as we could and we bring it to school. we trade it for writing pad papers. This has been our source of papers for as long as i can remember. Sometimes i can find this fruit in walmart or other grocery stores but oh my goodness it is more than 3 bucks a piece... hmmm not in a million years will i buy this at that price... i will just wait when i come home. our starfruit tree is still alive ...lol

Tambis. Some call this water apple. My sister has a tree and when it is season for bearing fruits it bears a lot of fruit. We really enjoyed eating this while dipping with vinegar and salt.
