A Mighty Heart

We had our movie night last night and we watched A Mighty Heart. It was a movie which was based on a true story. It was a story of a Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped by terrorists in Pakistan.

The movie shows a gripping story of faith, hope and courage in the face of tragedy. It was such a very compelling movie. Angelina Jolie did a very convincing role.

This movie is a story of how a wife searches for clues to locate her husband. What really touches me was when the wife was interviewed in TV and asked what is her message to her husband, she just said a simple "I Love You" but the way she says it... says it ALL. I also like the scene when Angelina thanked everyone for all their efforts in finding her husband.

Visiting Muscle Shoals, Alabama

During our weekend trip to visit Dad and Jan @ Killen, we also decided to visit Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Native Indians first inhabited the lands of Muscle Shoals which is bordered by the Tennessee River. Dave told me that you can walk in this area and find some arrow heads which just proves that Native Indians lived there long time ago.


The Shoals area is known worldwide for its music recording industry, as the birthplace of W. C. Handy, Father of the Blues. The birthplace of Helen Keller, and the home of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. It is also the birthplace of the Tennessee Valley Authority and the location of the Wilson Dam. TVA's Environmental Research Center, The Public Power Institute and the International Fertilizer Development Center, all nationally and internationally recognized institutions, are located in the Shoals.

Visiting University of North Alabama

The University of North Alabama traces its roots to 1830 and LaGrange College, the first state-chartered college in Alabama. We are in Killen, Alabama

We decided to visit Dad and Jan and spend our weekend with them. Killen is quite a long drive from where we live so we decided to leave earlier. Surprisingly, Dave woke up just after 7am. That was so early for him since his usual time of waking up is around 11am. Anyway, we were able to leave just before 10am.

On our way, we decided to check Sewell Seafood hoping to buy some fish and seafood but to our dismay it was already out of business. Dad suggested another seafood store but when we checked it, there was less stock and I didn't find the fish that I want and their shrimps is way beyond what I would like to pay for.

We had a great day today. We met Cris (Jan's son) finally. This is the first time that I met Cris in person. We had a great time just spending time together and eating... I had a great time eating apples and pears from their backyard.... Andrea had fun running around and playing with her new toys. She is having a blast with her new tea set.

Dad served us with his yummy pork roast (watch out for it at my kitchen blog) for our dinner. And yes we had our brownies for dessert.

Tomorrow will be another busy day, we plan on going to the river and spend some time there and let Andrea enjoy the tents there. Of course, we will be going to Shoney's too!

Mommy Moments: First Steps

I have always like looking at different bedroom designs. There are magazines that showcases different styles of bedroom designs. They have some sections that also provide tips on how to make a specific portion of your house looks elegant and glamorous. Looking at houses with wonderful interior designs always makes my day and it makes me think and wish that one day perhaps me too can have a place with superb design with majestic taste.

EVEN (Book Review)

I just finished reading the book EVEN. It took me longer to finish it because I don't have the luxury to read it without interruption.

The first half of the book is fast-paced but at the middle it seems like it gets slow but then it picks up the pace until it ends.

The book is worth reading although it doesn't make me stop breathing (in anticipation). The book has its moments of suspense but it lacks more twists. For a debut work, this is worth praising.

Anyway, I almost forgot how much I enjoyed reading until I finished reading this book. Hopefully, I can now find enough time to read.

A Salute to Kim Peek

Kim Peek is no ordinary man. He is a savant.

Have you seen the movie Rain Man? Kim Peek is the real life Rain Man whom the Dustin Hoffman character was based in the movie. Kim Peek is a mixture of disability and brilliance.

Kim Peek's story was shown in a tv show ( I just forgot what channel it was) and I was so fascinated. I stayed up so late just to finish the show because his life is very interesting. He reads a lot of books and he can read the left page of a book by his left eye and at the same time read the right page of the book in his right eye and yet memorize 98% of the page... amazing isn't it? He reads fast too... for ordinary people a person can read one page in an average of 3 minutes but Kim reads it in 10 seconds. He memorizes vast amounts of information in subjects ranging from history and literature, geography, and numbers to sports, music, and dates. He can recall the content of some 12,000 books from memory.

Car Tag

It is time to renew our car tag. I am glad that we can do it online. That means I can save postage fee...lol

Seriously, renewing the car tags online is very easy and very accessible so it saves us time. I am glad that the Probate Office where our car is registered offers an online service that will let us renew our tags online.
