I never had problems with nail biting as i don't bite my nails. In fact, I have one of the most wonderful finger nails (please just don't ask me about my toenails..lol). I remember that the lady that does my manicure always gets scared that she will ruin my fingernails. Actually, whenever i have my manicures done, I always have little wounds because my cuticles are so tender. They always tells me (by looking at my fingernails) that I am a spoiled. My hands doesn't look like a working hands... Well... I have my reasons... I am not used to doing household chores... I have always been an office girl that just handles pen, paper, computer and telephone... hahah that was my excuse! (half true... I am just lazy at household chores!)

Cashew chicken is one of Dave's favorite as you have read in my past posts. Tonight, I have finally been able to cook cashew chicken. It tasted good and we had a wonderful dinner. I purposely put green beans in it because we have plenty of green beans (yes fresh from the vine!) from Mom's garden. We actually have been enjoying eating fresh vegetables from Mom's garden.

I always like Morgan Freeman. I think that he is one of the most talented actors. Whatever his role in the movie, he can definitely act with conviction.

The CODE is a movie you don't want to miss. The ending is absolutely AWESOME! Anyway, as I was looking for this movie in the IMDB website, I wonder why I couldn't find this movie on the list. Well i searched using Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas and it showed me the movie but in different title. At IMDB, this movie (The CODE) is titled Thick as Thieves.

I think this movie wants to send a message "Never trust a thief"

Thumb Sucking

I am lucky that Andrea doesn't thumb suck. She didn't like pacifier either. When Andrea was 6 months old, we decided to give her pacifier because we were preparing for her first airplane travel. We thought that it will help her ease the pressure in her ears while flying.

We never wean her with the pacifier. She just suddenly stopped using it. I know we got lucky on this.

Anyway, I have a niece who is now 3 years old and still sucks her thumb. Thus it prompts me to research about thumb sucking.

Thumb-sucking is normal in babies and young children. A natural sucking instinct leads some babies to suck their thumbs during their first few months of life, or even before birth. Babies may also suck on their fingers, hands, or items such as pacifiers. Babies have a natural urge to suck, which usually decreases after the age of 6 months. But many babies continue to suck their thumbs to soothe themselves. Thumb-sucking can become a habit in babies and young children who use it to comfort themselves when they feel hungry, afraid, restless, quiet, sleepy, or bored. Most infants suck their thumbs. Toddlers suck their thumbs too. Little by little, most children stop on their own between ages 3 and 6.

Prolonged thumb-sucking may cause a child to develop dental problems. Thumb-sucking can cause a child's teeth to become improperly aligned (malocclusion) or push the teeth outward, sometimes malforming the roof (upper palate) of the mouth. A child may also develop speech problems, including mispronouncing Ts and Ds, lisping, and thrusting out the tongue when talking.

Many experts have said to ignore thumb sucking in a child who is of preschool age or younger. Most children do stop sucking on their own. However, children who suck their thumb may need treatment when they are pulling on their hair between 12-24 months of age, continue sucking a thumb often after age 5 or even if they develop speech or dental problems.

Usually treatment can be done at home and it can include parents setting rules to help provide distractions. Offering praise and rewards for not thumb-sucking may also help your child break the habit.

Mommy Moments: School Days

For this week's theme School Days, I don't have a picture of my daughter that would fit the theme. Andrea is only 18 months old. She is with me at home all the time. She has not been into a day care. We decided that I need to be a stay at home mom because of some health issues of the past.

Anyway, I don't want to miss this week's Mommy Moments so I decided to post a picture of how school looks like in our place.

Looking back, I had a great childhood. Although going to school means having to wake up early, doing your daily chores and getting ready to school then walk for more than a kilometer whatever the weather is (rain or shine), it was fun for us. Going to school was a stepping stone in achieving our goals. Despite the hardship we encounter, we never quit school.

I have fun remembering those school days... the rainy days where you have to chop some banana leaves to cover yourself hoping not to get wet...the games we played during recess time... the lunches wrapped in banana leaves ( we don't have lunch boxes then)... the school activities... the general cleaning days... the dentist days ( where kids will run away from the clinic because of the fear of the dentist)... all those memories are worth remembering...

While doing this post, I could not help but remember "those days"... and also remembering the friends I gained and lost contact with... Who knows someday we will meet again...

I was watching the HLN news when they have been talking about how he suffered from cardiac arrest. At first they said that he is in coma, then after a while they said that Michael Jackson is Dead.

LA Times published that Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by the doctors after arriving at the hospital in a deep coma.

I have been following the "Road to Omaha" baseball games and I know then that LSU got a chance to be the Champion... Oh well, we are LSU fans so I should think that they have the chance of winning...

I AM SORRY

SORRY ... A simple word, yet one of the hardest to say. Why? Why is that most of us find it difficult to say the word? Whenever you come into an argument or conflict with each other never fail to apologize if it is you who is the cause of conflict. Whoever is on the wrong should say sorry and with meaning. It is hard but not impossible to say you are sorry. Never take time to say you are sorry. It will help your relationship to be a happy and long lasting one.

Steroid Shot

I have been sick for a week now. I have coughing spells that would definitely wake up a whole barrio in their deep sleep. When I cough, it will last for over 5 minutes and mind you non-stop. My cough gets worse day after day and I end up sounding awful and hoarse.

Sometimes when I cough, I feel like my head is gonna explode. I waited and waited before I called our Primary Care Physician, hoping that over the counter medicine for cough and colds will help me. After having some rough nights where my cough is worse, I finally decided to call the doctor (Of course Dave has been begging me to call the doctor). When I called the office this morning, I was surprised that they gave me a slot for 3:00PM appointment. Usually, our doctor is always fully booked that most of the time we just see and consult different doctor which belong to the same office (Birmingham Internal Medicine Associates).

Dr. Leong ( our PCP) gave me an anti-inflammatory steroid shot, antibiotic pack and cough suspension. Should my cough remains the same I need to see her back in a week.

This is the first time that I have a steroid shot ... oh boy... my butt burns! I feel like I wanna stick my butt up!

Dining @ Thai Emerald

Dave loves Thai food and I haven't tried Thai food. For Father's day we dined at Thai Emerald Restaurant. The place is very nice. They only have waiters (no waitresses) who wear black long sleeves. They are all nice and not pushy.

We ordered sweet tea for our drinks. On our way to the restaurant Dave and I were discussing how good the ice tea in the Philippines. When we got our drinks, we were so pleased because that was one of the best tea that we had here in the USA (It can't beat the Phils though).

For appetizer, we ordered Calamari. We always order calamari when we eat out. It is our little tradition to try calamari from different restaurant. So far, Thai Emerald has the best calamari ever! It is better than our favorite restaurant in Bohol.

For our main course I order superior sweet and sour shrimp while Dave ordered Cashew Chicken. The food was marvelous. We both love the way they cook their vegetables. It is half cook and still crunchy.

Today is Father's day... a day for all the fathers out there to celebrate. Of course, I don't want to miss this chance to say my greetings:

To My Tatay.... who is not perfect yet remains perfect to our eyes. A father that you will be proud to say that he is the BEST. I know that Tatay has his weaknesses but I know that when it comes to his kids and his family, he will always be there. Tay, I missed our laughs and our jokes, and sharing secrets. I missed the hugs, I miss being your girl. I wish that I could be in your arms today to say... Happy Father's Day "KING"... (Kiking is tatay's pet name by the older people, I call him KING as a term of endearment)


To Dad Bill... Thank you for the wonderful moments that we share. I will forever treasure those. You are a wonderful father.

To Dan... Thank you for being a father to us all. I know that WE ARE all a handful yet you never complain.

Swine Flu in Bohol, Philippines

Dave told me yesterday about the case of a woman from Bohol who was tested positive with Swine Flu. I couldn't believe it. So when he went to work, he printed the article for me. It is unbelievable that the Swine Flu has spread all the way to Bohol.

It is said that there are 3 more Swine Flu cases in the Central Visayas.

This was the news printed in Philippine Star (?), 4th swine flu case in Central Visayas: Bohol woman A(H1N1) positive....
CEBU, Philippines – The Department of Health-7 announced that a 33-year-old woman in Bohol who just came from Qatar has been stricken with Influenza A (H1N1), raising to four the number of people suffering from the dreaded virus in Central Visayas.
